Long-term recovery from alcoholism and addiction is a reality for millions of individuals and family members. In fact, the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependance (NCADD) estimates that almost 20 million individuals and family members are living life in long-term recovery.
But you don’t just check into rehab and get better by the time your stay in treatment is over. You don’t just go to a few 12-step meetings and get sober. Recovery is about learning to live your life in a new way, without alcohol or drugs. It’s developing a network of sober friends and families, people who you can talk with and relate to. It’s creating a new life. Recovery is a remarkable gift; a miracle!
The Council offers 15 programs to help those who suffer from the disease of addiction. We offer a comprehensive continuum of care for persons in need of treatment services or other interventions. The Council operates approximately 200 residential beds at four separate facilities in the cities of Shreveport and Bossier, as well as several outpatient treatment options.
We are one of nearly 100 affiliates of the NCADD. The Council is a 501(c 3) non-profit voluntary health organization which has served this area since 1958. We are licensed by the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals.
The experiences of people who suffer from alcoholism and drug dependence are real life stories of how addiction destroys minds, hearts and souls, but more importantly focuses on the celebration of a life lived in long-term recovery.
Addiction affects each and everyone one of us, either directly or indirectly. More than 23 million people, (9.2% of population over the age of 12) have an alcohol or drug problem. Addiction is a primary, chronic disease with genetic, psychosocial, and environmental factors influencing its development and manifestations. The disease is often progressive and fatal. We offer solutions and help to those who suffer and their family and friends. Recovery is a reality for millions of people.
